Bananas are super-simple to make, though. I don't know why anyone would spend money on banana puree. Seriously, if you happen to have a ripe banana, all you do is nuke it for 20 seconds to soften it up a little, put about a third of it in a bowl, and mash it with a fork. That's it. That's all. There is no more. Just feed the child the piece of ripe banana. It's cheap and easy. (That's what she said! Is that not appropriate for a child's blog?)
We've also started giving Jack a little water in a cup. We tried the Playtex sippy cup, but it is supposedly leak-proof, which basically means he has to work hard for it. He wasn't a fan. For some reason, he will NOT take water out of a bottle, but put it in a cup and he gulps it down. The more it looks like Mommy's water the better. So, we went for the toddler sippy cups. He makes a complete mess, but he has a grand old time doing it. Luckily, its just water. When we start juice, he may have to just suck it up and get used to those leak-proof sippy cups. ;-)
For anyone who cares, here is how to make mass quantities (about 3 cups) of banana puree. Contrary to popular belief, they can be frozen.
Mashed Nanas
Ingredients:
5 ripe bananas
3 oz breastmilk (or formula!)
3 T lemon juice
Directions
1. Microwave bananas for 20 seconds to soften them up (optional).
2. Place bananas and breastmilk in blender and puree until smooth.
3. Add 1 T lemon juice per cup of puree (should be about 3 cups), and stir thoroughly.
4. Freeze in ice cube trays. The lemon juice should keep the bananas from getting too brown. They might get a little brown, but brown is ok to eat. When you defrost them, if they need to be a little thicker, add a little rice cereal.

Jack tell Mommy to mix a little of your new food into your rice so that you can get used to the new flavor a little at a time. You know, have the two foods next to one another in the dish; put a little rice and a bit of bananas on the spoon and taste. Progress from there until you have only the new food on the spoon. It won't be so shocking to you. What do you think? Love Nona (but what do I know?)
"That's what she said" is always appropriate.
Amy why dont you just put out a cookbook I already got a name for you. "everything boob juice" I have been noticing a common theme with all of Jacks food. Poor kid! When will he be able to eat the good stuff, like Fois Gras, Pork Belly, or even Sweetbreads.
Joey
Amy- I agree with Joe about the cookbook- but I'm serious. I have some recipes that my host mom makes for us grown people, that looks oddly enough like baby food-- and she feeds it to the baby, too. Here are four:
1. puree some peas, and you got green soup. 2. Puree some carrots, and you got orange soup. 3. Cook up some zucchinis on the stove, and then put them in the food processor, and then add to the pesto sauce (put with the green soup for the baby, or on pasta for grown people... I actually like this) 4. (This one is just for the baby) Cut up an apple, orange, carrot, fennel, or just the butt of a loaf of bread and let the baby knaw on it until he throws up, in which case, just hold him horizontally so the throw up goes right on the floor, where you can leave it for the dog to eat, without ever mopping it up.
If I am introduced to any more, I will be sure to let you know.
Oh.. and I was thinking.. maybe you should introduce the nasty vegetables first, like green beans. That way, he won't be disappointed when they start getting progressively worse. I mean..just an idea.
-miss you Jackson!
Those are some great recipes, Mia! I especially like the puke clean-up method. Too bad we don't have a dog... Green Beans are coming soon. I wanted him to have something nasty (peas), and then feed him something tasty so that he didn't just give up and decide to hate all food. Although, that boy sure does love his peas, so I guess they aren't nasty. I also needed to space out my orange vegetables. I turned orange, and I don't want that for my child. :)
And Joey - we live in a day and age where those parts of the animal don't need to be eaten. Ever. By anyone. :)
